The 4 Pillars of the Total Artist Development System help to provide an easy-to-follow structure, but really there are 12 steps underlying this structure, NONE of which should be neglected without a good reason. This lesson is an overview of the systematic Music Career Blueprint strategy that the Total Artist Development System is built on. In each of the following lessons, we'll go much more in-depth — with action steps — into each step of the Blueprint. Remember, this is YOUR JOURNEY, so don't expect to play a passive role in defining and executing it. I'm here to guide you, but even as your mentor, I can only show you the door; only YOU can walk through it.

Just as you wouldn't embark on a long journey without a map (or in modern times, a GPS or equivalent), you also shouldn't jump haphazardly into something as huge and involved as a music career without a navigation guide.

Yet musicians keep doing exactly that, again and again. What's important though, is for you not to be one of those musicians.

That is where the Music Career Blueprint comes into play. Not every step is absolutely necessary for every musician's journey (at least not in the traditional form in which we're accustomed to seeing it), but knowing where each step *would* come into play along the well-traveled path can provide you with a much clearer picture of what you want to do *instead* for that step. 

Or at the very least, you will have a clear, well-defined and well-thought-out reason why you are skipping that step, with full knowledge of what doing so will cost you so you can determine whether it's worth it or if it will undermine your entire endeavor.

Even if you're doing this for fun, when you release an album, you're using another business's platform; when you play a live show, you're using another business's venue. They are not in it for fun. They are in it for money. They are not here to put up with you "just here to have fun," so if you're going to enter the music industry, do so knowing you're walking into any number of real-life business situations, and you'll need to conduct yourself professionally or find yourself in a very bad position with no way back out very quickly.

And in order to conduct yourself professionally, first you have to know that that actually means in this industry, because it comes down to the expectation that you "have your shit together" in every conceivable way.
